Travel authorization required to EuropeStarting May 2025, Canadian citizens, along with citizens from 59 other countries must obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) before traveling to any of the 30 participating European countries, including Italy. Applying for an ETIAS travel authorization: The application can either be filled out through the ETIAS website of the ETIAS mobile app. The cost is 7 Euros although some travelers are exempt from the fee. 2025 Jubilee Year impact on travelThe Catholic Church's 2025 Jubilee Year (December 24, 2024 - January 6, 2026) will significantly impact travel in Italy: This increased tourism will affect all major Italian cities, although Rome will be most impacted due to its closeness to the Vatican. Expect higher prices for accommodations throughout Italy. Transportation services may be more crowded than usual. We strongly recommend booking all travel arrangements well in advance.

Sim cards and staying connected in ItalyAlthough there will be Wi-Fi at the wedding venue, staying connected within Italy will require a valid phone plan. Depending on your phone provider roaming packages and whether or not your phone is locked(tied to a particular provider), getting an Italian eSIM/SIM card could be more cost-effective option compared to roaming charges: eSIM (Providers: Vodafone, Orange, Airalo, etc.): Digital SIM card, no need to remove your primary SIM card. Some phone models may not support eSIM. Required: Unlocked phone, and phone model must support eSIM We recommend getting the eSIM before leaving your home country to avoid connection disruptions SIM (Providers: TIM, iliad, Orange, etc.): Can be used with all unlocked phone models. Need to swap your primary SIM card. Required: Unlocked phone SIM cards can be bought at the airport or before your travels through Amazon. International Roaming: You can continue using your primary number but it may be more expensive than European SIM card Required: If your phone is locked to a provider, this may be the only option We recommend getting a discounted roaming package before leaving your home country to avoid connection disruptions We recommend downloading the following apps prior to traveling to ensure your trip is as smooth as possible: WhatsApp - if you don't already have it Google Maps - Download offline maps of the area (in case you pass through regions with poor signal) Google Translate - Download Italian language pack (in case you pass through regions with poor signal) TrenItalia, Trainline, or Rome2Rio - For train tickets Emergency Contact: Local Emergency #: 112
